Our September meeting was our Potentate’s Reception for Ill John Knox and his Lady Becky. We gathered at Bayley’s Campground for a Lobster/Steak Feast prepared by the outstanding staff at Bayley’s. This was a time for us to meet new friends (Picture 1 is Ill John with Lady Becky and new noble Bob Maxfield and his lady Mary) and connect with old friends (Picture 2 is Bill Crane and his lady Ruth with new noble Shane Ross and his lady Joely hiding behind the Cranes). We all spent a splendid afternoon enjoying our lobsters and steaks. (Pictures 3, 4, and 5) It was really great to have David Smart and his lady Linda join us for awhile (Picture 6) Illustrious John told us how “it is” (Picture 7) His comments were well received by some ruffians (Picture 8.) As always it was wonderful to have our ladies there! (Picture 9)
Tom Bayley, fellow noble, took the opportunity to present a check for $3,300 to the Kora transportation fund. This money came from the revenue from recycling bottles and cans. Bayley’s displays signs and includes announcements in their publications to let their patrons know that the revenue from all recycled bottles and cans goes to support the Shrine Hospital Activities Thank you Tom
The project of sanding the floors at the temple was completed in time for the fall ceremonial. Many thanks to the fine people at Custom Design Flooring for their fine work and great service. The members of Portland Shrine Club who contributed the funds through the years can be proud of a very worthwhile project. The club house was never built but we were able to provide the temple with some freshly refinished floors that can be easily maintained for years to come. Thank you gentlemen. Pictures of the project are also shown on this web page

Our guest speaker was the Portland Police Chief, Chief Craig. ( Picture 1) He spoke about the modernization of our police force in Portand. One thing he pointed out was that there are no more Crown Victorias with chains for winter travel. SUV's are now being purchased for year round use.Chief Craig took the position of Chief of Police in another state the day after our meeting. I hope we didn't say or ask him something we shouldn't have!!
The nobility of the club approved giving the Shrine Center in Lewiston $15,000 to contribute to the refinishing of the floors in the building. Hopefully this can be done this summer and participants in the fall ceremonial will get to enjoy the newly refinished floors.
Four of the new nobles from the Summer Ceremonial in Saco attended and joined the club. (Picture 2) We welcome the new membership and look to have more joining us. Ryan Goldammer who joined in Saco will be speaking at our October meeting about his experiences at the Springfield Hospital. It will be interesting to hear about what we are doing as Shriners
