Our Famous Murals
The War of the Elephants
This story takes place generations later at the site of Mecca. Early seen of Christianity have been planted and competition rears its head.
In the city of Sanoa, ruled by a man named Abraha, a beautiful church is built. Built with the intent to lure worshippers from Mecca. Not only from the loss of revenue but the fact that Abraha is luring disciples to the new faith, give the Meccans cause that they cannot leave unattended.
Mecca seeks aid in the form of some thugs that it hires. They foully defile the church of Abraha. He is so incensed that he raises an army of forty thousand men to punish Mecca.
His force included fourteen war elephants. The huge white beast Abraha is riding is depicted in the mural. Legend has it that the elephants would not approach the gates of the Holy City.
Supporting the legend further, the birds in the mural are of great size. Each is carrying huge stones that they rain down on Abraha and his forces. This story grew from the fact that to reach Mecca from Sanoa, a narrow ravine must be entered. It is recorded that the Meccans threw stones down onto the army. His force is destroyed almost to the man. He returns to Sanoa to die broken hearted.
