Our Famous Murals

The Genesis of Scimitar

The Genesis of Scimitar

Background for this starting mural begins with Abraham and his wife Sarah. The biblical research indicates that Abraham was about 75 when his son Ishmael was born.

Sarah, feeling she was barren, gave her slave Hagar to Abraham. She did this because of her love for her husband and knowing he deserved a son.

As happens so many times, Sarah had Isaac after Hagar had borne Ishmael and he had been accepted as one of the family. Sarah was 90 years old when Isaac was born. Her husband, Abraham was reported to be 100 years old.

Conflicts developed in the family. Hagar began to assume a station she in no way merited. As a result, she and Ishmael are sent into the desert to find a new home.

In this mural we see the results of this punishment. Ishmael is dying of thirst. Hagar, in her despair, is granted discovery of the mystic well Zem Zen. Saving both their lives and represented in the picture by the water vessel.
