The Flight of Mahomet
This is the second of the paintings directly depicting the life of Mahomet. This flight from Mecca changed the path of world events. History was effected and molded that would determine events for the next 1,400 years and forever.
As happened in the case of Christ, persecution follows any religious upheaval. Here we see Mahomet, consumed with fear, hiding from Meccans who will slay him if he is found. He is comforted by his Uncle Abu Taleb.
With the assistance of Taleb, he is able to escape to the city of Medinah. The date of this fateful event is September 13, 622. Eight years later he will return in triumph to the city of Mecca.
While in Medinah he builds a Temple, gathers his vast array of followers, who in prayer still face the Holy Coty of Mecca, and gathers his strength and determination to return to the city of his birth.
One ending note of legendary interest. In Mahomet's stay in the cave, with his old Uncle, it is written that a huge spider cast a web over the entire cave entrance. This web prevented the search of Mahomet's hiding place by the Meccan partol. Needless to say, Mahomet's eight year stay in Medinah caused him to re-work some of his visions.
