Our Famous Murals
The Siege of Aleppo
Aleppo is vital to our series of murals because of its association with Abraham. It is considered the location of Abraham's vast herds from which he gave milk to all who desired it.
Aleppo is located at the very north east extremity of the Syrian waste. In the picture we see the young warrior, Youkenna, ready to lay down his life for the honor of his wife.
Youkenna was the chief defender of Aleppo and has already routed the forces of young Obediah. As so many times in the past, Khalid has come to the young generals help.
Khalid, for once in his career, has also failed to take the city by storm. We see Youkenna and his wife looking at the huge instruments of war with which Khalid is making siege.
Youkenna knows the city is lost. He decides after much soul searching to surrender to the forces of Islam. How much this actually cost him in conscience is in question. He promptly changes sides.
He goes to Antioch, tne imperial capital of Syria and the last stronghold of the Christian Greeks. Here through deceit and treachery, he gives the city over to the forces of Islam.
