Our Famous Murals
Discharge of the Veteran Patrol
Mahomet brought together the many tribes of his realm. Together they might be but they were far from unified. It took the strong hand of Khalid and his veteran patrol to keep some kind of order and this order through fear only. If Mahomet was the organizer and originator of the faith, it was Khalid that held it together.
After the death of Abu Bekr, the union held by the scimitar and whip began to unravel. Omar used the "sword of Islam" to control his troubled realm.
Many cities had to be retaken and punished. This Khalid did with his usual fervor. He kept nothing for himself but sent great caravans of riches to Medinah.
Where Omar and Khalid's problem started is unknown. Mr. Cochrane states that Omar was not noted as a jealous man, but he can attribute his turning on his general to nothing else.
Obeidah is being pushed forward to take Khalid's place. He is in no way effective and even lacks courage.
As in the attack on Damascus, Khalid must come to his aid to win the day. In Syria, all would have been lost without Khalid.
Here we see Khalid turning over his scimitar to Obeidah. He dies shortly thereafter with a broken heart possessing nothing but his horse and armor.
