Fund Raising

Fund raising is one of the methods used in paying for the hospital system. Patients who benefit from the services of the hospitals do so free of charge however, it far from free. Through the efforts of many Shrine Temples throughout the country as well as a very active Donor Relations Program, we are not only able to maintain these hospitals, we also have a very strong Research and Development Program.

The following events are the main fund raising events of Kora Shriners. You need not be a Shriner to support these programs. Come and see what you can do to help and have FUN!

Kora Shrine Circus

This is the 56th year that Kora has sponsored the Shrine Circus. It is the major fundraiser for Kora’s operating budget. During the week of April school vacation, we will have 17 shows between Lewiston, Portland and Augusta. Volunteers are always needed and welcome. If you can’t volunteer your time during the week, ask how you may help in some other way. If you purchase your tickets and do not plan on attending please send them back to the Temple for distribution to families in need.

Maine Shrine Lobster Bowl Classic

The 21st Annual Maine Shrine Lobster Bowl Classic will be held this year on Saturday, July 24th at Waterhouse Field in Biddeford with Kick-off scheduled for 4 PM. This High School Senior All-Star football game is the only Kora Shrine sponsored event where 100% of the net proceeds from the game are for the benefit of Shriners Hospitals for Children. This East vs. West match-up, brings over 160 student athletes and coaches from all over the state together to help produce what is considered the premier High School sporting event held in Maine. All participants commit to a week long training camp where they make new friends and more importantly, learn why we play the game…so that Strong Legs Run….So that Weak Legs May Walk.

Kora Car Show & Fly In

On July 12, 2009 we will host the 5th annual Fly In and Car Show. This will be located at Twitchel’s Air Field on Route 4 in Turner Maine. With a wide range of classes this event has quickly become one of the top shows in Maine. Come out to spend the day with over 300 vehicles, planes and lots of food. The proceeds from this event help supplement the Kora operating budget.

Kora FEZtival of Trees

The Feztival of Trees is another Kora operating budget fundraiser. This years event will run from November 22 thru 25 & 28-29. We are planning to have in excess of 50 display trees, a craft fair, a silent auction and of coarse the kitchen will be open. The general public is invited in to see our beautiful building and help us kick off the holiday season. Watch for the upcoming details as word has leaked from the North Pole that Santa will be present to have pictures with the kids.
