Scenes from the Kora Kraftsman Ladies of the Table

The Kora Kraftsman held a Ladies of the Table on May 17th. This is an event that is a cross between a traditional mens table lodge and a ladies night.

We honored not only our new Grand Master's wife, Audrey Walker but also our most recent past Grand Master's wife, Gerry Ross as well as our Potentate's lady, Nancy Gove.

The 7-course meal was enjoyed by all and it was very well attended. This is an event we hope to continue next year as well.

For more images from the Ladies of the Table, visit the Kora Shutterfly page created by Amy Stenger.

Another Successful Summer Ceremonial

What a great weekend. We could have not had better weather. The Grand Architect was definitely looking down on us this weekend.

Kora welcomed 24 new nobles. Many positive comments were heard all weekend long. There were two very special events that occurred at Bayley's Campground that we may not see again for a very long time; noble Brent Tanguay popped the question to girlfriend Karen Schneider in front of all to see - and see said YES!!

Masonic Values Shine within the Kora Family

As I mentioned in the previous story, there were two very special events that happened at Bayley's Campground. The second touching event was seeing Masonic charity in its truest form.

Three days earlier, noble Damon Brooks and his wife Melissa lost their home to fire. Fire officials said the house was completely engulfed in flames when crews arrived at about midnight. Firefighters from more than a half dozen area towns battled the blaze. Damon and Melissa lost their house and all of their possessions to a house fire.

The nobility of Kora and masons have been donating to a fund set up for them. In addition, Bayley's Campground donated a substantial amount to Damon & Melissa.

If you wish to add also donate, you may do so by clicking here.

TURNER, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- At an annual benefit in Turner, Kora Shriners received more than donations to Shriners Hospitals: they were able to meet one of the beneficiaries of their work, and see her learning how to walk.

Three-year-old Isabell has Cerebral Palsy, and needs to have fitted leg braces to help her learn how to walk.

Her mother, Sarah Pettengill, said cost has been prohibitive.

She said a few months ago, she was able to connect with a Shriner and get into the Shriners Hospital in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Since then, Isabell is making strides in her physical development.

"Since we've got her braces she's been able to take a lot more independent steps, which has been wonderful for us to see," said Pettengill.

It was also wonderful for Shriners like Tim Luttrell, who has been coordinating Isabell's care.

Saturday was the first time he had met the Gardiner family in person.

"When you get to see the fruits of your labor, when a little girl three years old, you're giving her a better chance of quality life, I don't need anything more than that."

Shriners met the family at a Kora Shriner fundraiser in Turner. Motorcyclists and ATV riders traveled from LA Harley in Lewiston to the Twitchells Airport in Turner.

A Contribution that Lasts a Lifetime

e h 2c p
Shriners Permanent Contributing Member Program Universities, service clubs and associations all promote lifetime memberships. Did you know that Shriners International offers nobles a chance to be life members of its health care system?

Through the Shriners Permanent Contributing Membership program, Shriners may make a one-time donation in lieu of the hospital assessment that is included in your dues each year. It’s an excellent way for you to support your philanthropy, and this contribution may be taken as a charitable deduction if you itemize on your taxes.

Your membership adds to a special endowment fund that directly supports our hospitals. This means your gift will serve for generations to come because only the income from the gift will be spent annually to help the children served by our hospitals. A noble contributing to the fund will receive a certificate suitable for framing and a dues card bearing a special seal indicating he is a Permanent Contributing Member.

Contact Kora Recorder Paul Sherman for more information and to become a PCM member today.

Cost of PCM is a one-time $150 and it reduces your annual dues to $65 per year for the rest of your life!

Permanent Contributing Membership is an excellent gift for:

  • Fathers to give their sons when they become nobles
  • Wives to give their husbands who are nobles
  • Units to use as a special recognition for outstanding Shriners who are officers or volunteers

Arkansas Statement from Imperial Session

7/3/2013 12:00:00 AM (INDIANAPOLIS) Imperial representatives of Shriners International voted to make a change to its articles of incorporation regarding membership at the 139th Imperial Session. The prerequisite requiring that members of Shriners International are first members of Freemasonry (Masons) in good standing has been amended to exclude the requirement for the state of Arkansas.

This legislation was brought forth by the two Shrine temples in Arkansas following the Arkansas Grand Lodge edict last November that would no longer allow anyone to remain an Arkansas Mason AND an Arkansas Shriner. Shriners International has always had a Masonic prerequisite and regrets that the actions of the Arkansas Grand Lodge made the passage of this legislation necessary to preserve the existence of the two Shrine temples in Arkansas.

Shriners International is committed to maintaining open lines of communication with the Grand Lodge of Arkansas to encourage amicable relationships for current and future Masons and Shriners. This change does not affect other Shriners across the country, and the organization remains a fraternity based on fun, fellowship and the Masonic principles of brotherly love, relief and truth. Shriners International's primary focus continues to be its philanthropic mission to support Shriners Hospitals for Children®, a world-renowned health care system with 22 facilities in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
