Mission
One of the newer units of the Temple, the Flag unit began under the sponsorship of Kennebec County Shrine Club and became an official Temple unit in 1982. The unit participates in Shrine parades and other events authorized and approved by the Illustrious Potentate. It promotes Kora Shriners, the Masonic fraternity, Shrinedom and good fellowship amongst its members.
Membership
Current membership in the Flag Unit is 32 with a maximum goal of 75. Seven members are currently on reserve status. Membership requirements are a desire to support the objectives of the unit and willingness to attend drills and performances.
Uniform and Dues
Dues are currently $5.00 per year. Uniforms must be purchased by the unit member at a cost of about $150.00. Flags and other equipment are supplied by the unit.
Attendance
Meetings and rehearsals are held the second Monday of the month at the Gardiner Legion Hall. The unit participated in 13 functions during the past year.
Application
Applications may be obtained from the Director, Officers or Unit members. Membership is by election. Categories of membership are active, inactive, life and honorary.
Miscellaneous
As with other organizations, the Flag unit promotes social activities and assists in the Shrine philanthropies through its fund-raising activities.
