Mission

The Greeters while active as a group for many years became an official Temple Unit in 1983. We greet the nobles as they come into the ceremonial, take charge of the candidates until they are turned over to the second section, pass out dinner tickets and perform other duties as requested by the Potentate. There are 4 Stated meetings which are held on the Thursday before the Ceremonials and are mandatory for all active members of the unit. Other functions may be mandated by the Potentate and the members are notified of these through an “Activities Update” sent out, when needed, by the secretary. They assist in promoting fellowship in the Temple and other functions that may be prescribed by the Potentate.

Membership

To become a Greeter, a noble must demonstrate a desire to participate in the above activities on a regular basis. The current membership is 13 Active, 5 Emeritus and 14 Honorary.

The Greeters register candidates at ceremonials, fit their fez and take charge of them until they are turned over to the Second Section. The Greeters' ladies take charge of the candidates' ladies whenever ladies are present at Ceremonials. When the Second Section is completed, the Greeters see to it that the candidates and their ladies are never left alone. Candidates and their ladies should be in the company of a Greeters or their sponsor at all times during the Ceremonial.

The Greeter Unit is also available to assist at other functions such as the Lobster Bowl, Circus performances, Car Show, and any other events as requested by the Potentate.

Uniform and Dues

The Greeters official formal attire is a tuxedo, white dress shirt, black bow tie and cummerbund and black shoes and jeweled fez with appropriate lettering also a burgundy blazer is required. Total costs approximately $300.00. Dues are $10.00 per year.

The semi formal attire shall be a maroon sport jacket, white shirt, black slacks, black tie and black shoes.

The casual attire shall be the white Greeter golf shirt and black slacks.

Attendance

Four meetings are held 4 times per year. We are not a marching unit but do attend parades at times on a voluntary basis. The Greeters have social functions which all members are requested to attend when possible and unit fund raising events are held on occasion.

Application

Applications are available from any Greeter and membership is by election.

Miscellaneous

The Greeters conduct unit social functions and fund-raising activities and participate in Temple and other unit social functions.
