Mission
The Legion of Honor became an official unit of Kora Shriners in 1928. Its mission is to provide escort duty at Kora ceremonials an other official functions, to carry the Temple colors and assist in flag ceremonies. The Legion performs floor drills at ceremonials and when appropriate, enters competition with other similar units at Shrine conventions. The unit ALSO participates in all Shrine parades and other functions as requested, when deemed appropriate.
Membership
The Imperial strength of the Legion of Honor is 40 members, current membership being slightly lower than this. Membership requirements are:
- Good standing in Kora Shriners and the prerequisite body.
- Honorable discharge from or current membership in a branch of the United States Armed Forces.
- Ability to attend practice sessions and official functions on a regular basis. Membership categories are active and past active members.
Uniform and Dues
The cost of the uniform is shared on a 60/40 basis by the unit/member. The unit fez bearing appropriate lettering is supplied by the unit. Dues assessment is currently $3.00 per year.
Attendance
Meetings and drill practice are held twice a month at 7:00 P.M. on Thursdays at the Masonic Temple, Portland. The Legion participates in 8-12 functions annually including the four ceremonials. Participation in all functions is required except with acceptable excuse.
Application
Applications and additional information may be obtained from the officers or any unit member. Acceptable applicants are elected by the membership upon application.
Miscellaneous
Social functions, either unit or semi-public are sponsored by the Legion for entertainment and/or fund raising.
