Mission

The Provost Unit of Kora Shriners, was established in 1983. This unit is responsible for the internal security of Kora Shriners, protection of the Nobility at Shrine functions. The unit members are also responsible for security at events that are considered Kora Shriners functions, included but not limited to the following, Ceremonials, Lobster Bowl Football Game and Kora Shrine Circus.

Membership

The membership of the Provost unit consists of regular, honorary and associate membership. There are currently 43 members in the Provost Unit. This unit has grown from about 15 members in 1990 to 43 in 2002. The unit consists of a Chief and two Deputy Chiefs appointed by the Chief. The unit members elect a President, Vice President, Security, Treasurer and Scribe; all of whom are given the rank of Lieutenant. The Chief appoints Sergeants as needed. Any Shriner interested in joining this unit should have an interest in law enforcement/security work. Prior experience is not required, however, a preference is given to those Shriners with that experience.

Uniform and Dues

The provost uniform must be purchased by the Noble at an approximate cost of $70.00. The current uniform requires a pair of uniform pants and shirt. The badge and patches will be supplied by the unit and will remain property of the unit. Dues are five dollars annually and are paid in January.

Attendance

The Provost unit participates in 4 ceremonials a year. Unit members are also encouraged to actively participate in all circus shows in the one closest to the member's home. All members are asked to help with the Shrine Lobster Bowl Game. Members may also volunteer to provide Temple Security at one or more of the many Temple functions that happen throughout the year. The Unit meets at each Ceremonial and at the units annual meeting which is held the first Friday after the Temple's annual meeting each January. Members who attend four or more events are eligible to attend an annual unit's banquet at no cost. This event takes place the first Saturday in May of each year. No member is required to make all meetings and events. Members ladies are encouraged to participate by coming to events and gathering with the other ladies of the unit.
